Radio 2SM was once the queen of the AM airwaves, the raging belle of Sydney
radio. Can’t remember back that far? Thought the old girl had flat-lined, killed by
a video star and an MP3 file in the back?
Our cheeky documentary 'The State Of Australian Radio' will also feature
‘2SM, A SUPER STORY,’ which will be dedicated to noting the glories,
scandals, ratings and rantings of Radio 2SM’s golden days. From its straight-laced
beginnings in the 1930s as the Catholic Church’s ‘Radio Two Saint Mark’s’,
through its explosive, hormonal teen heyday in the sock-it-to-me sixties
right through to the current day.
We will take a glimpse at the highlife of the past, but due to high demand will be
taking a more indepth look at where 2SM and related stations sit today. Since
launching this site last October, we have been inundated with requests from 2SM
aficionados to examine the cause of the amazing decline of such a much loved
station that one insider describes as ‘The Faulty Towers Of Radio’.
Past and present staff are reporting hilarious tales told out of school and have
sent us fascinating memoribilia that just happened to walk out of the studio with them.
Old jocks, it seems, just can’t keep a sock in it — for which we are very grateful.
Their stories, and much more, will feature in our new documentary.
We also wonder why current owner Bill Caralis has avoided our many invitations
to be interviewed and would seek expensive legal assistance to distance
himself from our program.
